Recently PPG purchased the DeSoto aircraft paint company and then split it into two divisions. For most types of aircraft refinishing, including commercial aviation, they selected a mixture of products and created the Desothane line, which we at Ben's have full access to. But where highly technical, military and/or situation-specific coatings are needed, they remain with the DeSoto label. At the present time, we only have access to DeSoto label coatings when sufficient volume is involved.
For most small to mid-size planes, we also recommend PPG's Delfleet line. This isn't just one paint - it's available in 6 single stage varieties and 3 basecoats. You may only need a medium solids material like FDG, but you may also need the high chemical resistance of FDXH. Doing repair work? Try FBC or FBCH basecoat for ease of blendability. If a marriage of economy and quality are up your alley, try Delfeet Essential single stage.
Although we don't presently carry a true aircraft grade paint stripper, we do have the metal treatment materials and epoxy primers to handle the job from there. Check out complete line of products below and give us a call. Click here to find your nearest Ben's location.
